14th Annual Lefthand Canyon Cleanup

The 14th annual Lefthand Canyon Cleanup was held on May 7th, 2006. This year the main effort was placed in the shooting area at the start of Carnage Canyon. There had been some trash and shooting at the lower two areas that are closed, but the majority of the trash and shot up targets was past the first Lefthand 4WD road hairpin turn. The main shooting area is seeing more trash and targets left. This seems to coincide with the reduction in Forest Service personnel presence now that the Lefthand Grant is complete. Some of the trees up the slope have even been shot down.

This year we had seventy one volunteers, excluding the four Forest Service personnel. By noon we filled the dumpster donated by Western Disposal and the Boulder Ranger District, USFS. Lunch was once again provided for all the volunteers that make this annual project a success.

After the cleanup the Trailridge Runners 4WD Club members finished up some Lefthand Grant work by welding on the three brochure holders to the metal kiosks at the entrance, five points and upper five points (Olympia).
