Rock Creek Signing Project

by Adam Mehlberg

On August 11th Gordon Howe, Gail Straty, Richard, Cathy, Aaron and Jordan Horiuchi, Richard and Karla Harmon, Perry Wilson and I met Brian Rasmussen at the Ferncliff Store before heading up Rock Creek to do a little signing. We headed up Ski Road to where it enters the National Forest and placed our first sign. Here we also fixed a travel management sign that was facing the wrong way.

The Rock Creek 4WD road starts out easy heading south toward the Indian Peaks Wilderness. As we climbed, the road narrowed and became rougher. We placed signs at the intersections to the few spur roads and placed one closure sign where a hill climb looped into a willow marsh.

Close to lunch we made it to the end of the road at the Wilderness boundary. The weather was clear as we had lunch. After which we headed back down placing road signs at the rest of the intersections.

Though the Rock Creek 4WD Road is not long, it took us all day to place the signs and scout the spur roads.
